Osorio Propels Nogales

Jose Osorio of La Puente Nogales High could not have picked a better time to double his season goal total than against Riverside Poly in a Southern Section Division II quarterfinal Thursday at Nogales.
Osorio, a junior forward, scored two goals, the second of which gave Nogales a 4-3 victory in double overtime and propelled the Nobles into a semifinal against top-seeded Los Alamitos on Tuesday at a site to be determined by a coin flip.
Osorio headed in a corner kick from Mynor Lima with 31/2 minutes left in sudden-death overtime after the Nobles (20-4-2) had trailed, 2-0, at halftime.
His first goal (and third of the season) came off a crossing pass from Jesse Luna and tied the score, 2-2, with less than a minute left in regulation.
Nogales, which beat Riverside Poly on penalty kicks in last year’s quarterfinals, took a 3-2 lead with four minutes left in the first 20-minute overtime when Gonzalo Alvarez scored on a left-footed shot off a cross from Luna.
But fourth-seeded Poly (24-4-1) tied it a minute later on a goal by Brett Hiroto.
Riverside Poly (19-1-1) suffered a big loss eight minutes into the first overtime when Joel Mojica was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken nose while going up for a ball with Nogales defender Juan Salinas.
The game was stopped for about 35 minutes as Mojica was tended by coaches and paramedics before being taken to County-USC Medical Center by helicopter.
He was released later Thursday.
