U.S. Park Police Get First Female Chief

Teresa C. Chambers was sworn in as head of the U.S. Park Police, becoming the 14th chief of the nation’s second-oldest federal law enforcement agency.
“What an awesome day,” she said after the ceremony. Chambers, the first woman in the job, will lead a staff of 680 who watch over some of the nation’s most beloved treasures.
Founded in 1791, so-called park watchmen were dispatched by President Washington to guard federal parkland within the district. The 22% of the city now under the agency’s jurisdiction includes the monuments on the National Mall.
