A Port Hueneme strip mall was evacuated Thursday and later closed after portions of a restaurant’s roof sagged and nearly collapsed, officials said.
No one was injured in the incident, which began about 10:24 a.m. inside the Roxbury Deli and Grill in the 400 block of Channel Islands Boulevard, said Joe Luna, a spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department.
As many as 18 people were inside when several customers “heard some creaking and moaning” and saw the ing sagging and tiles shifting, Luna said.
Four other businesses were evacuated as building inspectors and members of the urban search and rescue team inspected the building for damage, Luna said.
The building has been red-tagged and deemed unsafe, he said.
