Doan Worry, She’s Happy

Canada’s Catriona LeMay Doan, the defending champion in the women’s 500 meters, avoided the fate of her compatriot, Jeremy Wotherspoon, the favorite in the men’s 500 until he fell on the first day of competition. Doan not only is in first place going into today’s final round, she set an Olympic record Wednesday.
American Chris Witty, a two-medal winner at the 1998 Nagano Games, is 17th among 31 skaters.
