Mystery Illness Kills 1, Hospitalizes 7 Others

A mysterious illness killed one woman attending a convention in Cherry Hill and sent seven others to hospitals, but health officials said they didn’t think anyone else who didn’t already have symptoms would get sick.
Joanne Hemstreet, 45, of Massachusetts, died Sunday at Kennedy Memorial Hospitals-Cherry Hill. She had a viral, flu-like illness for about two days that worsened Saturday night, said Dr. David V. Condoluci, of Kennedy Health System.
One man and six women were taken to the hospital early Sunday after also developing a viral, flu-like illness, Condoluci said.
