Man Shot in Hand by Officer After Car Chase

A man was shot in the hand by a Santa Ana police officer after a brief car chase that ended in a struggle with the officer near the man’s home, police said Sunday. Francisco Morino, 29, of Santa Ana was treated at a local hospital and then taken to Santa Ana Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of assault to a police officer and driving under the influence.
The injury occurred about 7:40 p.m. Saturday after Morino reportedly drove to his residence, then ran. During a subsequent struggle, an officer’s gun discharged, striking Morino’s hand.
