Sample Ballot Error Favors Challenger

More than 140,000 sample ballot pamphlets for the March 5 election were printed incorrectly for the Orange County Board of Supervisors race between incumbent Cynthia P. Coad and challenger Chris Norby, a Fullerton City Council member.
Coad’s and Norby’s names were reversed on the ballot, giving Norby a slight edge because his name appears first. Incumbents should be listed first.
Coad’s husband, Tom Coad, who is her campaign manager, said Registrar of Voters Rosalyn Lever’s office apologized. “Obviously, we’re disappointed with this but we feel it’s not worth the added expense of making the taxpayers pay for reprinting the sample ballot pamphlets,” he said.
