A man and a woman were severely burned Monday night when flames swept through their apartment in the Crenshaw District, but three children escaped without harm.
The two adults were in extremely critical condition at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with burns on 80% of their bodies. They were not immediately identified.
Jim Wells, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said the cause of the blaze was not known.
He said it took 25 firefighters about nine minutes to put out the blaze, which was confined to a single unit in the four-unit building.
