Patriotic Performance Borders on Nuisance
- Share via
Somewhere in our neighborhood a dedicated patriot is calling us all to attention. In the several blocks bounded roughly by Aurora Drive, Elmhurst, Bucknell and Wake Forest, we all have the opportunity to listen to a patriotic medley played intermittently from before dawn to after midnight or 1 a.m. with unpredictable pauses. What sounds like an electronic organ plays “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “God Bless America” and “America The Beautiful” over and over.
Imagine the dedication of our patriot to maintain this medley every day and night since sometime in October last year! Imagine the stamina required for nearly 24-hour-a-day duty! Consider the sacrifice in increased electrical bills!
Shouldn’t this person come forward to accept our recognition? Despite the apparent modesty, shouldn’t his neighbors be able to offer the public notice his perseverance merits?
It would be a shame if such a patriot is only recognized by the gendarmes enforcing the Noise Abatement Ordinance after 10 p.m.
