Showdown Set for Semifinals

Kristina Kunkel scored three goals Friday and the Santa Margarita girls’ water polo team defeated Newport Harbor, 5-3, in a quarterfinal game at the Southern California Invitational at Heritage Park in Irvine.
Newport Harbor (19-5), ranked No. 4 by The Times, cut the lead to 3-2 in the third quarter, but No. 3 Santa Margarita answered with two goals.
The Eagles (18-4) will play top-ranked Santa Ana Foothill (20-1) in a semifinal today at 10 a.m. at Heritage Park.
Foothill defeated Carlsbad, 6-2, in another quarterfinal at Heritage Park. Breana Allison scored three goals and Emily Feher had nine saves for the Knights.
The other semifinal, which will follow the Foothill and Santa Margarita game, will feature sixth-ranked Corona del Mar against No. 7 Lake Forest El Toro.
Corona del Mar defeated Long Beach Wilson, 9-7, in a quarterfinal at Corona del Mar High, and El Toro upset second-ranked Bell Gardens, 7-6, in a quarterfinal at El Toro High.
In boys’ soccer:
Temecula Chaparral 5, Elsinore 1--Angel Rubio, Ian Etherington, Tobin Jaramillo, Chase Douglas and Josh Pulido each scored for visiting Chaparral (20-1-1, 6-0). The victory was the 10th in row for the second-ranked Pumas, who clinched a share of the Southwestern League title.
