An army bomb squad in Northern Ireland defused explosives packed in a lunch box that was found beneath a pregnant woman’s car, officials in the British province said.
The bomb had been placed under the car in Greystone, southwest of Belfast, the provincial capital.
Police officials did not identify the woman who they say was the intended victim.
Michelle Gildernew of the Irish Republican Army-aligned Sinn Fein blamed the attempted bombing on Protestant paramilitary groups. Authorities did not say whether the intended victim is Roman Catholic.
