Medical Center to Close Sooner Than Expected

Officials at St. Luke Medical Center in Pasadena say the hospital will close Feb. 10, two months earlier than previously announced.
When Tenet Healthcare revealed that it was closing St. Luke for financial reasons, it said the hospital would be shut down April 3. But after the hospital’s anesthesiology group canceled its contract with St. Luke last month, Tenet said, the health-care firm was forced to move the closure up.
At a county hearing Thursday night, a Pasadena fire official noted that paramedics in the vicinity will have to travel farther to reach a hospital. The city of Pasadena’s Public Safety Committee will hear a report Monday about the potential impact of the closure on medical care in the community.
