Illness on Navy Ships Not Linked to Norwalk

About 300 sailors aboard the Theodore Roosevelt were hit with the stomach flu this week during a training exercise while the aircraft carrier was off the Virginia and North Carolina coasts.
The sailors were told to drink plenty of fluids, rest and wash their hands frequently.
The illness peaked four to five days ago among the crew of 5,000. Tests showed that the sailors did not get sick from a Norwalk-like virus, which has been blamed for recent outbreaks on a number of cruise ships, a spokesman in Norfolk for the Navy’s Atlantic Fleet said.
