Georgia Holds Off Late UCLA Rally
Kara Braxton scored a career-high 30 points and had 11 rebounds to lead No. 14 Georgia to a 91-83 victory over UCLA on Friday at Athens, Ga.
UCLA (4-2) pulled to within three in the final minute, but Georgia (3-2), which made seven of eight free throws down the stretch, held on to win and ended UCLA’s four-game winning streak.
Trailing by 20 points at halftime, UCLA opened its offense in the second half, launching 18 three-point attempts. Lisa Willis made four of her three-point attempts before fouling out. Julia Pitts led UCLA with 20 points.
In other top-25 games, Iciss Tillis had 22 points and 10 rebounds to help host No. 1 Duke set a school scoring record in a 128-53 win over Howard in the first round of the Duke Women’s Classic.... , Laurie Koehn had 25 points to lead No. 7 Kansas State past Middle Tennessee State, 79-61, at Manhattan, Kan., in the first round of the Commerce Bank Classic.... Lindsay Whalen scored 19 points to help No. 12 Minnesota defeat Providence, 67-55, at Providence, R.I.... India Lewis scored 19 points in No. 13 Arkansas’ 79-60 win over Northwestern State in the opening game of the Rice Invitational at Houston.

No. 8 Florida 58, Florida State 57 -- Freshman Anthony Roberson made two free throws with 25 seconds left to help the Gators (5-2) win at Tallahassee, Fla. Tim Pickett scored 23 points for Florida State (3-1).
No. 20 Minnesota 79, Bethune-Cookman 52 -- Michael Bauer had 13 of his 19 points in the first half for Minnesota (4-0) at Minneapolis. The Golden Gophers played without leading scorer Rick Rickert, who was out because of an illness.
