Recent Storms Bring Fire Season to Close

In the wake of recent rainstorms that dropped more than 6 inches in some areas, the Ventura County Fire Department on Wednesday officially closed its fire season.
The fire season, which began a month early this year in mid-April after a winter of scant rain, was relatively mild.
The largest blaze, officials said, was a 150-acre fire Sept. 9 in a Fillmore river bottom.
The end of fire season means far fewer firefighters are immediately dispatched to brush and grass fires, officials said.
