Phyllis Joffe, 58; Teacher, Producer and Journalist Heard on Public Radio

Phyllis Joffe, 58, an award-winning journalist and producer whose work was heard on many National Public Radio programs, died Saturday in Astoria, N.Y., from unexpected cardiac arrhythmia.
For the last two decades, she had been a regular contributor to programs on NPR, including “Morning Edition,” “All Things Considered” and “Weekend Edition.” She specialized in coverage of the arts and education.
A native of Philadelphia, Joffe graduated from Temple University and received a master’s degree in child psychology from Southern Connecticut State University. She began her career as a social worker in New Haven.
She taught journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and at Wesleyan and Quinnipiac universities, both in Connecticut.
