Defendant in Markowitz Slaying Faces Retrial
From Times Staff Reports
Santa Barbara County prosecutors said they will retry a Goleta man in the August 2000 shooting death of a 15-year-old West Hills boy.
A jury last month acquitted Graham Pressley, 19, of kidnapping Nicholas Markowitz, but deadlocked on the murder charge.
Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge William L. Gordon on Thursday set a Sept. 24 retrial.
Pressley is the third of five defendants in the case. Two others were convicted and are awaiting sentencing. The fourth is awaiting trial. The alleged ringleader, Jesse James Hollywood, is still at large.
