North Venice Reaches Softball World Series
The Girls’ Junior League softball team (ages 13-14) from North Venice again defeated Oregon, 3-1, Friday in the championship game of the Western Regional at Vancouver, Wash.
Amber Angel started for North Torrance and went four innings, and Stephanie Carrillo, who threw the final three innings, helped North Venice advance to the World Series, which will be played in Kirkland, Wash., for the first time. North Torrance will play the Philippines, the Asia Pacific representative, in its first game Sunday.
North Venice, which lost its regional opener, 12-1, to Oregon on Aug. 3, handed Oregon its first defeat of the tournament, 1-0, on Thursday to force Friday’s game. North Venice defeated Chico, 8-1, on Tuesday and Arizona, 8-1, on Thursday.
