The prolonged recession in Asia, combined with Americans’ recent reluctance to fly, is helping to produce good vacation deals. Among them is a Bangkok package from Ritz Tours that starts at $950 per person, double occupancy, including five nights at top hotels, round-trip air fare from Los Angeles or San Francisco on Cathay Pacific, daily breakfast and two half-day tours of the Thai capital. The lowest price applies for travel through May 14 using the Hotel Sofitel; add $100 for travel through June 14 and $300 for the peak summer season. Packages at the Peninsula Hotel are $200 more.
