Judge Orders Trial in Thompson Murders
A former business associate of auto-racing legend Mickey Thompson was ordered Thursday to stand trial in the 1988 murders of Thompson and his wife.
A judge found that there was enough evidence to try former racing promoter Michael Goodwin, 57--who lost a bitter, two-year court battle to Thompson, 59, before the execution-style killings--on two counts of murder with special circumstances.
Orange County Superior Court Judge Francisco P. Briseno ordered Goodwin held without bail pending the outcome of his trial. He has steadfastly maintained his innocence.
