Areas for Preserving the Past

Seven districts are included in Sunday’s self-guided tour of Los Angeles’ Historic Preservation Overlay Zones. These boundaries roughly define the neighborhoods:

1. Miracle Mile North: This mid-city area lies between Beverly Boulevard and 3rd Street, and Detroit and Gardner streets.

2. South Carthay: Southeast of Beverly Hills, this district is bordered by Olympic and Pico boulevards, and La Cienega and Crescent Heights boulevards.

3. Western Heights: This six-block area west of downtown is defined by Washington Boulevard and the Santa Monica Freeway, and Western and Arlington avenues.

4. Angelino Heights: Located northwest of downtown L.A., the area is bordered by Sunset Boulevard and the Hollywood Freeway; Kensington Road and Bellevue Avenue.

5. University Park: Located near USC, the area is south of the Santa Monica Freeway and north of Adams Boulevard, between the Harbor Freeway and Vermont Avenue.

6. West Adams-Normandie: Just west of downtown L.A., this district’s boundaries are the Santa Monica Freeway and 29th Street, and Vermont and Normandie avenues.

7. Banning Park: This district in Wilmington is between M and L streets and includes Lakme Avenue, Banning Boulevard and Cary Avenue.
