Justin Leonard shot a three-under-par 68 on Saturday to remain in the lead at the Texas Open at San Antonio.

Leonard, a Dallas native and the defending champion, played even-par on the front nine and made three birdies on the back nine for a three-day total of 16-under 197.

Matt Kuchar shot a 64 to pull within two shots of Leonard.

South Korea’s Se Ri Pak shot an eight-under 64 to take a seven-stroke lead in the AFLAC Champions at Mobile, Ala.... Tom Kite shot a 10-under 62 and grabbed a five-shot lead at the Gold Rush Classic senior event at El Dorado Hills, Calif.... Steve Haskins shot a 66 to take a one-stroke lead in the Buy.com Tour’s Inland Empire Open at Rancho Cucamonga. Casey Martin shot a 70 and fell nine strokes off the lead.

Marcelo Rios of Chile overpowered Andrew Ilie of Australia, 6-4, 6-2, and Rainer Schuettler of Germany defeated Andre Sa of Brazil, 6-4, 6-0, in the semifinals of the Salem Open at Hong Kong.

Felix Mantilla defeated fellow Spaniard Albert Portas, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3, and Argentina’s David Nalbandian eliminated Spain’s Tommy Robredo, 6-2, 7-6 (4), in the semifinals of an ATP tournament at Palermo, Sicily.

Kim Clijsters defeated Elena Dementieva, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, and Magdalena Maleeva defeated Nathalie Tauziat of France, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, in the semifinals of the Sparkassen Cup at Leipzig, Germany.

Top-seeded Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario lost to eighth-seeded Joannette Kruger, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, and Indonesia’s Angelique Widjaja defeated Hsieh-Su-Wei, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3), in the semifinals of the Wismilak International at Bali, Indonesia.

Jeff Green elected not to pit during a late caution and the gamble paid off with a Busch Series victory in the inaugural Mr. Goodcents 300 at Kansas City, Kan.

Whit Bazemore, Kurt Johnson and Mike Coughlin turned in record-setting runs in qualifying for the NHRA Nationals at Joliet, Ill.

Bazemore had the quickest Funny Car run in NHRA history with a quarter-mile time of 4.750 seconds at 323.27 mph.

Johnson qualified in Pro Stock with a 6.801 (202.70 mph) and Coughlin clocked 7.379 (182.65) in Pro Stock Truck.

World Boxing Council super-featherweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will defend his title against top-ranked contender Jesus Chavez on Nov. 10 at the San Francisco Civic Auditorium. The fight, originally scheduled for October in Las Vegas, was postponed when Mayweather had dental work.

The parents of West Virginia State College softball pitcher Heather Allen, who died during shoulder surgery Aug. 14, are suing the hospital and doctors involved, the Charleston Gazette reported.
