Hurricane Watch Issued as Storm Heads for Land

A hurricane watch was posted for southwest Florida as Tropical Storm Gabrielle moved closer to land. As much as 6 inches of rain fell by afternoon.
Gabrielle could bring as much as 10 inches more rain in the next 48 hours, said Jack Beven, hurricane specialist at Miami’s National Hurricane Center.
Metropolitan areas from Miami to Palm Beach County got 3 inches of rain or more overnight, while Jacksonville got 6.3 inches. South Florida was covered by an urban flood advisory, and a flood watch was posted for the rest of the state.
