Carson 48, Gardena 0--The Mohicans’ hold on first place in the Marine League lasted only one week as the Colts (6-1, 2-1) dominated from the outset at Carson.
Carson ran for 338 yards with fullback Marcus McCall scoring on runs of two, two, 12 and one yard. Brandon Myles had 85 yards rushing and a touchdown, while McCall ran for 71 and Kevin McCall had 55.
“We wanted some payback for last year,’ said Marcus McCall, referring to Gardena’s 20-14 victory.
Matthew Malele, Carson’s standout junior defensive lineman, joined Nate Lauifi on the offensive line this week and said their addition was the key in sparking a running game that was missing in last week’s 13-3 loss to San Pedro.
“With us, it gave us a bigger push up front,” Malele said. “Hopefully, this is a new beginning for us.”
Gardena (4-3, 2-1) was held to 101 yards. Quarterback LaFerrell Payne had to sit out the first quarter for missing practice.
One play typified the night for Carson, when Marcus McCall caught a two-point conversion on his back after Gardena’s Craig Batiste deflected Jason Tialavea’s pass into the air.
