1992 Nobel Laureate to Make Stops in O.C.
The 1992 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Rigoberta Menchu Tum, will make two public appearances this week as part of a Southern California tour.
Menchu will speak at 7 p.m. Monday at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Student Union Pavilion and at noon Wednesday at the Santa Ana College amphitheater.
Menchu, a Guatemalan activist, is internationally known for promoting peace and defending the rights of indigenous peoples. After her campaigns in the early 1990s, the United Nations declared 1993 the International Year for Indigenous Populations.
When she won the Peace Prize in 1992, she was the first indigenous person and the youngest to do so.
