Price for Self-Serve Gas Drops 7 Cents in U.S.

Motorists got more relief at the pump in the last week as the U.S. average price for self-serve regular gasoline dropped nearly 7 cents to $1.416 a gallon, the Energy Information Administration said.

In California, the average price for self-serve regular gasoline was $1.624 a gallon, down 3.6 cents, the EIA said. The Los Angeles average fell 3.9 cents to $1.524 a gallon.

The U.S. average increased only two-tenths of a cent, to $1.529 a gallon, in the week after the East Coast terrorist attacks and has been falling since. The EIA, part of the Energy Department, surveys more than 9,000 gasoline stations each week.
