Trash Service Initiative Ordered Onto Ballot

A Superior Court judge Thursday ordered the city of Carson to place a trash-service initiative on the March 5 ballot.
The order was a victory for a group of residents seeking to open the city’s trash pickup service to competitive bidding. Although the group collected well over the number of required signatures, the council refused to put the matter before voters and sued petitioners.
“The City Council tried to deny the citizens of Carson their right to be heard,” group leader Vera Robles DeWitt said. “So, for the people of Carson, the judge’s ruling is a big plus.”
City Manager Jerry Groomes said his staff will brief the council on the ruling and its options, including an appeal, Tuesday.
