3 U.S. Men Acquitted in Artist’s Slaying

Three of four Americans charged with murdering a Connecticut artist in the British Virgin Islands were acquitted.
Saying the evidence against them was insufficient, Judge Kenneth Benjamin dismissed charges against Alexander Benedetto, 35, of New York; Michael Spicer, 37, of Virginia; and Evan George, 23, of Washington, D.C.
William Labrador, 37, of Southampton, N.Y., remains on trial. The four men were jailed hours after Lois McMillen, 34, of Middlebury, Conn., was found dead Jan. 15, 2000, on the island of Tortola. Prosecutors said she had been drowned. All four men denied involvement.
