Wife Killer’s Life Should Be Spared, Fla. Jury Says

PENSACOLA, Fla. — A jury that convicted a former medical examiner of killing his wife with an injection nearly a decade ago recommended Wednesday that he be spared the death penalty.
After hearing family and friends beg for the life of 68-year-old Dr. William Sybers, the jury recommended a life sentence without the possibility of parole for at least 25 years.
Circuit Judge Don Sirmons is not bound by the recommendation.
Prosecutors said Sybers killed Kay Sybers, 52, in 1991 so that he could marry his mistress and prevent the loss of at least half of $6 million in joint assets in a divorce. The retired pathologist and his mistress were married three years later.
