Laguna Hills Wins Softball Tournament
Brittany Fait pitched her third shutout in four Argonaut Invitational games as Laguna Hills won the Garden Grove softball tournament with a 2-0 victory Monday over seventh-ranked Loara.
Fait, the tournament’s most valuable player, gave up four hits and two walks but kept previously unbeaten Loara (11-1) off-balance throughout. She had only three strikeouts.
A walk and Lauren Lappin’s double gave Loara a chance to tie the score in the third, but Fait (11-2) got out of the inning with a line-drive double play.
Laguna Hills (14-3) produced the bulk of its offense in the second inning against Alicia Owen. After a walk, Erica Corley’s slap single and a hit batter, Kim Becerra drove in a run on a fielder’s choice, and Stephanie Morgan had a two-out single to drive home Corley.
Owen (6-1) gave up four hits, walked one, hit one batter and struck out four.
In nonleague baseball:
Magnolia 7, Santa Ana 7 (8, darkness)--Kevin Arbiso struck out 10 in six innings and also had two RBIs for Magnolia.
In nonleague boys’ golf:
Irvine 380, No. 2 Servite 383--Irvine’s Jon Friedman had an eagle and two birdies to shoot a two-under at Oak Creek Monday and finished with a one-under 70 at Oak Creek and Los Coyotes. Irvine is 4-3.
