Ramirez, Waves Go for Two Against USC
Pitcher Greg Ramirez of Pepperdine will try to beat USC for the second time this season when he starts today against the Trojans at Dedeaux Field in a 5 p.m. game between nationally ranked teams.
Ramirez, a sophomore right-hander, got the victory in Pepperdine’s 5-3 defeat of the Trojans last month in Malibu. The Rio Mesa High graduate allowed six hits and three runs in seven innings.
Ramirez, 1-1 with a 3.14 earned-run average, has continued to establish himself as a dependable pitcher. A reliever for weekend West Coast Conference games, he has emerged as a steady weekday starter for the No. 13 Waves (16-7).
No. 9 USC (15-10) will counter with sophomore right-hander Chad Clark (2-2, 6.17).
