HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Hart 8, Valencia 2--The Indians reached a sweet 16 of sorts, winning for the 16th time in 16 games against the Vikings in a Foothill League game at Valencia.
Bill Susdorf’s three-run home run capped a five-run sixth inning for Hart, which has dominated Valencia since the school began playing varsity baseball in 1996.
Susdorf, who has signed with UCLA, also had a run-scoring double for Hart (9-0, 2-0).
“He’s our guy,” Hart Coach Jim Ozella said. “He’s clutched up before and he’ll do it again.”
Valencia (4-3, 1-1) tied the score, 2-2, on a solo home run by Richie Martin in the fourth inning but failed to get a runner past second base after that.
Eric Posthumus (3-0) of Hart allowed one earned run on three hits in six innings.
Chris Valaika, who batted in the No. 9 spot, had two hits and scored two runs for Hart, ranked No. 2 in the region by The Times.
“Unfortunately, we had to pitch to Bill Susdorf, plus the two batters ahead of him and behind him,” said Valencia Coach Jared Snyder.
