Prison Escapees Face Other Charges
Six Texas prison escapees who led police on one of the nation’s biggest manhunts were indicted on charges of escape, kidnapping and robbery.
The indictments by a Karnes County grand jury relate to the inmates’ Dec. 13 breakout from the Connally Unit near Kenedy.
A Dallas County grand jury had previously indicted the men for the slaying of a police officer in Irving during a robbery at a sporting goods store on Christmas Eve.
Karnes County Dist. Atty. Lynn Ellison said he felt obligated to pursue the case even though the men face the death penalty if convicted on the murder charges.
