Stiles Becomes NCAA’s Career Scoring Leader
Jackie Stiles of No. 18-ranked Southwest Missouri State scored 30 points and became the career scoring leader in NCAA Division I women’s basketball in a 94-59 victory over Creighton at Springfield, Mo. Stiles increased her career total to 3,133, breaking the record of 3,122 that Patricia Hoskins set at Mississippi Valley State from 1985-89. Stiles, who also leads the nation in scoring this season at 30.8 points a game, is still not the all-time collegiate leader. Five players scored more than Stiles in the years before women’s basketball came under the NCAA in 1982. Lynette Woodard was the leader in that era with 3,649 points at Kansas from 1977-81. Southwest Missouri State is 21-5 overall and 15-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference; Creighton is 17-9 and 11-6. . . . No. 13 Utah (24-2, 13-0) allowed four more points than its previous game with Air Force (3-23, 0-13) in an 80-33 victory at Salt Lake City. . . . No. 16 Louisiana State (19-9) won for the first time in the Southeastern Conference tournament since 1996 in a 72-57 victory over Kentucky (6-21) at Memphis, Tenn.
