From Times Wire Reports

After being allowed to leave China, a family of North Koreans seeking asylum arrived in the Philippines, where an airport official said the group would spend the night and then fly to South Korea.

The seven North Koreans had taken refuge in a U.N. office in Beijing, saying they feared persecution at home. China gave them rare permission to leave for a third country.

The family had been secretly living in northeastern China since fleeing North Korea in 1999, U.N. officials said.
