Man Held in Slaying of Girl, 16, Is Released

Long Beach police have released a suspect who had been taken into custody on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of Laura Gaviria, a 16-year-old Long Beach girl.
Though still under investigation, Hipolito Sanchez, 29, was released by police Wednesday for lack of evidence, said Det. Richard Conant.
Sanchez was arrested by police Monday night, soon after Gaviria was fatally shot while crossing a street with two friends. The three were caught in a hail of bullets coming from the frontyard of a home about 20 feet away.
Police spotted Sanchez running from the scene and arrested him.
