Of Mouse and Music
Best Buy Co., the largest U.S. electronics retailer, will become the first traditional retailer to offer music downloads from five major record labels through an agreement with RioPort.com.
Financial terms weren’t disclosed. RioPort.com will distribute music downloads to Best Buy’s Web site later this year, adding to the site’s music selection. Customers using the site, at https://www.bestbuy.com, will pay 50 cents to $2 to download singles and $12 to $16 for full-length albums, Best Buy spokeswoman Donna Beadle said.
RioPort.com is the only company to have download-distribution agreements with Sony Corp., AOL Time Warner’s Warner Records, Bertelsmann’s BMG Entertainment, EMI Group and Universal Music Group.
