Terra Lycos Buys Raging Bull
Spanish Internet giant Terra Lycos said it bought online financial community firm Raging Bull in an all-cash deal to increase traffic to Terra’s network of sites. Terra Lycos bought the company--which provides chat rooms and message boards that have gained popularity as the individual investor community has grown in recent years--from AltaVista Co., which is majority-owned by Internet holding firm CMGI Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Terra Lycos was created through last year’s takeover of Waltham, Mass.-based Lycos Inc. by Terra Networks, the Internet arm of Spanish telecom group Telefonica. Terra Lycos also said it has bought Iberwap, a provider of digital mapping services and content on the Web from Telefonica for undisclosed terms. CMGI closed up 38 cents at $6.84 on Nasdaq.
