What’s the perfect complement to a City section offense? According to Monroe Coach Ron Harris, it’s a Southern Section-style defense.
The Vikings, runners-up to Kennedy in the Valley Mission League last season, are undefeated in league play. A big reason is a full-court defense instituted by Harris. Four players average at least three steals, led by Amber Burgin’s 4.9.
“When we played in the Simi Valley tournament earlier in the season, most of the teams were from the Southern Section, and all of them played with a full-court press,” Harris said. “It took us a while to find ourselves, but we finally clicked right around when league started.”
