Elvira A. Manning, a homemaker, nanny and longtime Ventura County resident, died Sunday at a convalescent home in Ojai. She was 90.
She was born Dec. 5, 1910, in Nebraska, one of 15 children of Charles and Effie Cryder. In 1922, she and her family moved to Ventura County.
In addition to caring for her own three children and later her grandchildren, Manning was a professional nanny in the Ventura and Oxnard areas. In later years, she worked as an assistant at the Work Training School in Camarillo, educating the mentally challenged.
Manning enjoyed walking, working in her garden and fishing. She also enjoyed reading and watching sports.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1966.
She is survived by sons James Milton Manning of Goleta and Floyd “Buzz” Manning of Ventura; daughter Betty Vreeland of Fallon, Nev.; sister Mildred Sharek of Ventura; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and 11 great, great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura with the Rev. Edwin Crist officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
