Oxnard Police Still Searching for Rape Suspect
Oxnard police released a sketch Tuesday of a man they believe raped a woman last month on her way home from work.
The victim, a 21-year-old Oxnard woman, was grabbed by a man on the sidewalk on Vineyard Avenue near North H Street about 10 p.m. Jan. 18, Oxnard Police Det. David Klug said.
The assailant dragged the woman about 20 feet to an isolated area behind a row of tall shrubs and sexually assaulted her.
For reasons that detectives would not discuss, the victim did not report the crime until Feb. 9.
Detectives did not release any details until Tuesday.
Detectives believe the attacker either randomly selected the victim or followed her from work.
They do not believe the man is responsible for any other similar crimes recently.
The assailant was described as having a dark complexion and an unshaven face.
He appeared to be 25 to 35 years old, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, muscular and about 180 pounds.
He had a diamond earring in his left ear.
At the time of the attack, he was wearing a black baseball cap turned backward, black cotton pants, a black long-sleeved sweatshirt and white tennis shoes.
Anyone with information should call Klug at 385-7662.
