Mildred L. Knapp, a retired elementary schoolteacher, died Monday at the Thousand Oaks Healthcare Center. She was 88.
She was born Nov. 16, 1912, in West Danby, N.Y., where she grew up and attended school.
She also met her future husband, Claude Knapp, there; the couple married in 1931.
Thirty-eight years ago, the Knapps moved to Thousand Oaks where she taught second grade at Glenwood Elementary School. She retired in 1976.
According to her granddaughter, Kimberly Thompson of Thousand Oaks, Knapp loved to play cards and was active at the United Methodist Church of Thousand Oaks.
In addition to her granddaughter, Knapp is survived by son Kelton Knapp of Long Beach; sister-in-law Gladys Loomis of Ithaca, N.Y.; grandsons Kurt Knapp of Thousand Oaks and Kory Knapp of Long Beach.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Funeral services are scheduled at 7 p.m. tonight at Pierce Bros. Valley Oaks Mortuary in Westlake Village, which is handling the arrangements.
