Killer Who Put Girlfriend’s Body in Refrigerator Gets 25 Years to Life

A Long Beach man who admitted killing his live-in girlfriend, then stuffing her body inside a refrigerator, was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison, authorities said.
Edwin Marquis, 51, was convicted last month in Long Beach Superior Court of the first-degree murder of Francine Harpel, 45. He had confessed the crime to a 911 operator last year.
When police arrived last February at the house the couple shared on West 29th Street, Marquis admitted to striking Harpel over the head with a “blunt object” three weeks earlier, Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Leslie Klein said.
Searching the home, police came across a refrigerator painted black with a white cross and sealed with duct tape, Klein said.
