Healthy Prescriptions for Affordable Care

“Health Care Costs Creep Out of Reach†(Dec. 23) was very comprehensive in covering the difficulties in delivering health care services at the present time in the United States. I would like to add that the state of California is working to address the problem of access to quality, cost-effective health care services for all its residents with the Health Care Options Project.

There will be a series of symposiums to explore options for expanding health care coverage in California in various parts of the state beginning Jan. 24 in Fresno and moving on to Sacramento (Jan. 25), Oakland (Feb. 7) and Manhattan Beach (Feb. 8). Anyone may attend at no cost by calling (800) 858-7743 (press 0 and ask to register for the conference). The deadline for registration is Jan. 4.

By now it should be abundantly obvious that this country immediately needs a national, single-payer, Canadian/European-type national health care system. At the least, we should make Medicare available for everyone, plus the addition of a generous prescription drug benefit. Where is the real Democratic Party?
