* BellSouth Corp. said it will eliminate 1,200 more jobs, bringing the total cuts announced this year to 4% of its work force, as demand for basic telephone service shrinks in the weak economy. Bell South aims to eliminate most of the positions through a voluntary buyout package.
* Ford Motor Co.’s Don Winkler, chief executive of the Ford Financial credit unit, resigned one week after the auto maker raised reserves for bad loans and said its fourth-quarter loss will be wider than expected.
* Bankrupt Internet service provider Excite@Home Corp. said it cut about 400 employees as it prepared to cease all operations after Feb. 28. @Home said 900 employees will remain to assist with the transition as it shifts its customers to other cable companies.
