No. 16 Mater Dei Routs No. 15 Edison, 50-34

Jessica Williams scored 18 points and Amy Sanders had 10 points, eight assists and seven rebounds to lead Santa Ana Mater Dei over Huntington Beach Edison, 50-34, in a nonleague girls’ basketball game Thursday night at Edison.
Mater Dei, No. 16 in the Times’ regional rankings, outscored No. 15 Edison, 15-2, in the second quarter and took a 29-13 halftime lead. Mater Dei improves to 6-0. Edison, playing its first game in nine days, drops to 4-2.
Ventura 71, Valencia 48--Jenni Dooley scored 27 points and Katy O’Brien had 18 points for No. 8 Ventura (9-0).
In boys’ basketball:
Villa Park 53, Troy 42--Kyle Hogan scored 11 points to lead Villa Park (6-0) in a Troy Bracket semifinal of the North Orange County tournament.
Brea Olinda 75, Downey 66--Evan Moore had 31 points and 12 rebounds for Brea Olinda (5-2) in a Sonora Bracket semifinal of the North Orange County tournament.
Corona Centennial 66, Rialto 58--J.R. Reese scored 24 points and Lance Soderberg had 17 to lead No. 15 Centennial (3-0) in the quarterfinals of the Ocean View Tournament of Champions.
Riverside M.L. King 70, Santa Barbara San Marcos 55--Marvin Lea scored 29 points to lead No. 11 King (4-1) in the second round of pool play at the Murietta Valley tournament.
In girls’ soccer:
Los Alamitos 2, Santa Margarita 2--Quinn Crosby scored on a free kick in the 79th minute to forge a tie with Santa Margarita, The Times’ No. 2 team.
Westlake 1, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 1--Jill Oakes scored with two minutes left and No. 6 Harvard-Westlake (7-0-1) escaped with a tie.
Fullerton Troy 3, Villa Park 2--Lauryn Welch had a hat trick to lead host Troy in a nonleague game. In girls’ water polo:
San Clemente 6, Huntington Beach Edison 5--Allie Russell scored three goals for No. 10 San Clemente (2-1).
