Shanty Fire Leaves Thousands Homeless
From Times Wire Reports
A fire raged through a huge shantytown in New Delhi, gutting hundreds of homes for poor industrial workers and leaving up to 8,000 people homeless, police said.
Police said the blaze, which burned for three hours, spread rapidly because of the highly flammable plastic used for shelter.
No casualties were reported, and the cause of the fire was not immediately known.
