Redlands Coach Has the Right Idea
My vote for coach of the decade goes to Jim Walker of Redlands High (Nov. 25), who is a prime example of the axiom that sports don’t build character, they reveal character.
His “dream team,†special education students serving as team managers, should be copied by coaches everywhere. Developmentally disabled persons deserve the chance to be the best that they can be, and Coach Walker is giving them that chance. And, in the process, his players, coaches and other students are learning important lessons about these special people.
Redlands may have lost on the field to Mater Dei last week, but the Bulldogs are winners in the larger game of life.
