Sparks’ Effort Should Be Beyond Compare

Sparks players should never utter the word “Laker,” or compare attendance figures. When DeLisha Milton says “Laker,” she reminds most everyone why we aren’t into the WNBA. If a viewer was lingering on NBC, perhaps curious enough to watch a WNBA game for the first time, and the announcer starts talking about the Lakers--that person is going to think, “Oh, yeah, what the hell am I doing watching this? I’ll wait for November.”
If the WNBA is drawing 8,000 fans to a playoff game in the second-largest city in the U.S., they might want to rethink their marketing approach--not wonder why everyone likes the boys more than them. Sorry, they always will.
When the Sparks win it all, I hope no one says, “Where is everybody? The Lakers got 500,000 at their parade.”
