Missing U.S. Student Is Safe, Embassy Says

An American student who disappeared three weeks ago contacted the U.S. Embassy in South Africa and said she was safe, officials in Johannesburg said.
Natasha Smalls, 20, was due back in the U.S. on Aug. 1 after spending a year at the University of Natal in Durban.
U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Judy Moon said Smalls was safe, but Moon was not able to say where she had called from.
